Anna + Warren’s E-session! | Webster’s Falls

As much as I love going to new places to shoot, there are a few spots that I really don’t mind going back to time and again because they’re so diverse they seem different every time I’m there.  Webster’s Falls is one of those spots I LOVE!!  It was gorgeous yesterday for this session with Anna + Warren.  Warm and sunny but not too hot.  The sun going down made it particularly romantic…*uh, you know the THREE of us!! *lol  I had no problem getting these two to gaze longingly at each other…. I almost felt like I was intruding. :)    It was really a fun session, spectators and all.  There was a large group of young Mennonite women who seemed completely enamored with what we were doing and virtually followed us all over the park.  Very cute.

Anna + Warren have been telling me stories about how they would always travel by train to see one another over the years they’ve been together and both in school.   It was pretty cool to be able to take a couple of shots at the Brantford Train Station for them.  I think they’re my favourites!

Looking SO forward to the Wedding on June 8th!!   Thanks for the fun.

Hot Yoga at Manifest Yoga, Brantford

OK… honestly, I have been to a handful of Yoga classes in my life and can barely sit with my legs crossed *lol but Hot Yoga is my new FAVOURITE thing!!!  A girlfriend found this studio on-line and talked me into trying it.  I think we were both addicted immediately!  With other Yoga classes I’ve attended before, I was always getting distracted and not able to quiet my mind.  “Am I as bent over as she is?”  “Are my feet lined up properly?”  Blah, blah, blah….  I was always really missing the “experience” of Yoga.  Ya know?  Being in the zone; clear headed, relaxed and energetic.  It’s all there and more for me during these hot classes.  It’s almost like the heat feels so oppressive that it keeps me focused on my own body, less distracted.  Plus the heat feels SOOOO good!  Even when you’re sweaty and the middle of a workout!!  Truth is…these classes have made me feel better than I’ve felt in years and I’ve only been going for a couple of months.  My body is more toned and flexible.  I’m calm and relaxed with a clear mind. :)

Sooooo…… it was great fun to be heading to the studio yesterday to get some action photos for their website.  It was a great turnout and everyone did an amazing job!  Here’s a sneak peak of some of the images.

If you’re in Brantford and surrounding area come and check out a Hot Yoga class at Manifest Yoga.  Awesome instructors and …get ready to SWEAT!!!

Tuesday’s Globe and Mail…” Dear Photograph…”

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/technology/digital-culture/ivor-tossell/dear-photograph-thanks-for-the-memories/article2087284/

Great article.

It will be interesting to see the next evolution of the photograph.  Will it still be nostalgic just because it’s taken years prior?   Treasure or trash?  ARE we becoming desensitized to that connection with the past because every moment of our lives now feels like they’re documented by some digital mechanism?

Hmmmm.

Stopping time…

I’ve been reminded lately of the absolute privilege it is to be a photographer.  I think this notion is easily forgotten when we’re in the thick of Wedding season or Grads or Christmas campaigns.  We might get caught up in the repetitive tasks of running the business, endless hours of processing, *blog-writing* :) etc… and forget the power we have to stop time in a moment that can never be captured again.

For our clients, these moments are invaluable reminders of cherished times and loved ones who are with us and some who are not.  Remembering that at some point one of our photographs will bring back a warm and heart-felt memory is the reason I do it.

Thanks Sandy Puc, for the reminder.

Playing catch-up!

Sometimes I forget that I have this blog and I get so busy shooting and editing and Face-booking and living….. and BUYING GROCERIES, (*heavy sigh), that I get really behind and have to post three or four on the same day.

Today is one of those days :)

…. and just so you don’t think I’m insane, I mentioned the grocery shopping because I live dairy-free, egg-free and gluten-free and I feel like I’m constantly shopping or preparing something.  It’s unfortunate and not by choice, believe me.  Dairy Queen used to be my best friend  and now it’s avocados and quinoa! *lol

I feel MUCH MUCH MUCH better though so it’s all worth it.

andrew and angela…

What a glorious day!  November 14th, 2009 should go down in the books as the most beautiful on record for weather and the most fun a photographer can have with a Wedding party!

That said… there were TWENTY of them!!!! *lol

How does one wrangle that many, you ask?  I always wonder the same thing when faced with such a large group… but thankfully they were very cooperative and listened intently.  All of which I’m sure was to get back on the AMAZING “party-bus-limosine” Angela and Andrew had rented for the day.  This thing was incredible, I’ve never seen anything like it.  30 people, food, drink, great music, large flatscreen TV.  What else could you want?

When I first met with Angela and Andrew, he kept saying, “Yeah we’ll get pictures done FAST and then get back on the bus.  I want time to enjoy it!”  I couldn’t imagine what could be SO great about a bus until I saw it yesterday.

Pictures at Edgar’s Barn in Brantford was the ideal backdrop for this couple.  Old barn board, ice rink, rustic stone walls.  Thanks to Marsha and John for their help to prep the property for us.  Then back on THE BUS and off to the cocktail reception at Blessed Sacrament Hall in Burford where the Martini Bar was in full swing!  A violin and accordion duo were serenading the masses as people visited and found their tables, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Wedding Party.

Congratulations Angela and Andrew, yesterday was a perfect day for my last of the season.  Thanks for your trust!
